More about the provenance Lahore, ca. 1940 | Pakistan
Lahore is located in West Pakistan at the border of India. During the reign of the Mogul rulers Lahore was a signifcant center of carpet making. Many high end rugs, most of the luxurious rugs made for the Emperor's court and the aristocracy have been made in the famous manufactories of Lahore which have been initially run by Persian masters of carpet making. In the new production one mainly finds Turkmenian designs and prayer rugs, within the finer pieces also Persian designs.
