The pile of this carpet is made of wool
Excellent condition. This rug was ordered and used by one of Shah Reza Pahlavi's early ministers. It is a replica of his great grandfather's rug, who was leader of Bakhtiari tribes a few hundred years ago. The rug is in great shape overall. There are two minor repairs (shown in photos) that were done before we got the rug. Each is about 1-1.5 inch long and only noticeable from the back. There are a few superficial pinkish spots around the rug as shown in the photos and video. The selvage and edges are perfect, except for part of the side leather ribbon being ripped. There are no worn spots and the pile is full and even throughout. This carpet has a total of approximately 39,320,000 knots and it took skilled carpet makers about 52,427 hours or 5,825 working days to hand-knot this carpet. |

More about the provenance Malayer, ca. 1970 | Iran
Malayer is located about 80 km South of Hamadan. However, Malayer rugs resemble Farahan rugs more than Hamadans. Farahan (Feraghan) is approx. 100 km South-West of Malayer. Though Malayers are fuller and higher in their pile than Farahans.
