More about the provenance Tabriz Hadji Jalili, ca. 1850 | Iran
Haji Jalili is the name of a famous carpet weaving master from Marand near Tabriz. Besides very fine woolen rugs he used to also produce gorgeous silk rugs (also in larger sizes). Well preserved Haj Jalili rugs are some of the most desired rugs, especially in the USA and they achieve very high prices in the antique rugs market. Tabriz is the capital city of the province of Azerbaijan in North-West Iran. The city was founded by the Harun al-Rashid approx. in the year 800. Since the 17th century Tabriz is probably the most significant carpet-production-center of Iran. The finer Tabriz production is considered the best Persian productions in terms of quality and design - let alone them being made by famous Haj Jalili.
