More about the provenance Kazvin / Ghazwin, ca. 1945 | Iran
Ghazwin (also: "Kazwin" or "Kazvin") is located in North West Iran at the street Teheran-Hamadan. In the 3rd century Ghazwin came under Arabic reign for a while, in the 13th century it came under the reign of the Mongols. In the 16th century Ghazwin became the capital of the famous Safavid dynasty under which the first carpets of Ghazwin were known. Carpets from Ghazwin are heavily influenced by the carpet culture of Kashan in terms of colors and designs though Ghazwin rugs are higher in pile. They are known for high quality of wool and manufacture as well durability. The making of carpets ceased in Ghazwin before WWII which means that real Ghazwin rugs are at least 65 years old.
